Editing, Clips & Recording
Open a Version to review its media. On desktop, members with permission to edit versions can switch to Edit Mode to cut and arrange the timeline. External reviewers cannot edit media. A published version is locked; use Save as new version to continue in a draft.
Cut, Trim and Arrange#
- Enable Edit Mode from the player, or press
Cmd/Ctrl+E. - Drag on the waveform to select a range, or select transcript words to target their media. Correcting a word's text is a separate action; see Transcription & Search.
- Use the actions below to change the timeline. Edits save as you work. Check any error message before leaving the version.
- Play across the edit to check the result. Use
Cmd/Ctrl+Zto undo andCmd/Ctrl+Shift+Zto redo.
| Action | How |
|---|---|
| Split a region | Place the playhead and press B, or use Split |
| Cut a range or selected region | Press Backspace or Delete; the gap closes |
| Set a range | Press I and O at the playhead for its in and out points |
| Trim | Drag a region's edge to adjust its boundary |
| Fade | Select a range at the start or end of a region and press F |
| Crossfade | Select a range across one cut and press F |
| Rearrange regions | In Grouped mode, drag a region's grabber or use Alt/Option+← and Alt/Option+→ |
Cuts and trims change which parts play; they do not replace the original uploaded media. Transcript words follow the played timeline. Listen around each boundary, especially when several people speak at once.
Work with Multiple Tracks#
Use the add-track control to add source media to a version. Each track has its own regions and mixer controls.
- Grouped edits keep tracks aligned by editing them together. Use this for cuts that should affect the whole conversation.
- Slip edits affect the selected track. Use this to adjust one source independently. The toolbar toggle switches between Grouped and Slip;
Galso toggles it. - In Slip, a selection can cover several tracks: drag up or down across them,
Cmd-click a track to add or remove it, orShift-click to take every track in between and stretch the selection to where you clicked.P/;move the selection to the track above / below; addShiftto extend it instead. - Adjust track levels, mute or solo while checking the mix. Listen to the full mix again before sharing.
Bounce and Review Playback#
Bounce renders the current timeline and mix into one media file. It is separate from saving your edits.
- In Edit Mode, members hear the live timeline.
- In member review, an edited or multitrack version plays a bounce when one exists. Before the first bounce, members can hear the live timeline.
- Review links play the uploaded file for an unedited version, or a rendered bounce for edited media. Reviewers do not receive the individual tracks or the live editing engine.
- Downloads, clip extraction and other file-based outputs need a rendered mix that includes the changes you want to use.
After editing, use Bounce and wait for processing to finish before checking the review mix. An older mix can keep playing while a new one renders. A collaborator's newer mix does not interrupt an open review; use the newer-mix control when it appears. Your own bounce can switch in when playback stops. Verify the resulting mix before sending a review link.
Create a Clip#
Select the words or timeline range you want to reuse, then choose Create clip from the selection actions or editor settings. The action is available only with the required permissions and an eligible range. For edited or multitrack sources, bounce the intended mix first so the clip uses the rendered timeline.
Check the new clip's start, end and playback before sharing or exporting it. A clip is a separate version derived from the selected source range; it does not remove that range from the source.
Recording and Recovery#
Open the browser recorder, allow microphone access (and camera access for video), and record your takes. You can pause, resume and review before choosing Submit. Wait for submission to be accepted; Saved · not submitted means a recording has not yet been sent to the team.
If recording is interrupted, reopen Cuevue in the same browser and browser profile. Unfinished recordings can appear in the recorder or in a recovery banner on the version:
- Open recorder or Resume upload, where offered, lets you continue a recoverable recording or retry its upload.
- Download saves an available local recording so you can keep a copy or upload it again.
- Discard removes the unfinished local recording. Download anything you need first.
- Dismissing the recovery banner hides it; it does not discard the recording.
For upload formats and version lifecycle, see Versions. For a failed upload or missing recording, contact support with the version URL and the message shown.
