Cuevue Drive for Mac (Beta)
Cuevue Drive puts your Cuevue spaces in Finder. You can open a project's files in any Mac app, save over them, and drag new files in. Everyone in the space sees the change in the web app.
Install#
- Go to cuevue.io/drive and click Download for Mac. In the web app on a Mac, Get Cuevue Drive in the account menu takes you there.
- Open the downloaded file and drag Cuevue into your Applications folder.
- Open Cuevue from Applications and sign in with your Cuevue account.
Allow Cuevue in System Settings#
macOS keeps a new Finder location turned off until you allow it. You only do this once.
- Open System Settings and go to General → Login Items & Extensions.
- Under Extensions, open File Providers.
- Turn on Cuevue.
If Cuevue does not appear in Finder after signing in, this switch is almost always the reason.
Find your files in Finder#
Cuevue appears under Locations in the Finder sidebar. Inside it there is one folder for each space you belong to, and inside each space a folder for each project.
You can hide spaces or projects you do not need from the Cuevue app's settings. Hiding a folder only removes it from this Mac; nothing changes in Cuevue.
What syncs#
| In Finder | What you can do |
|---|---|
| Files — each project's files and folders | Read and write. Open, save, add, rename, move and delete. Changes reach the web app right away. |
Versions — the Versions folder in each project | Read only. Open a version or drag it into a session. Upload new versions from the web app. |
Docs — the Docs folder | Read only, shown as Markdown files. Turn on Show documents in the Cuevue app to see them. Edit docs in the web app. |
What you can change depends on your role in the space, the same as in the web app. See Roles & Permissions.
Working offline#
Files take no disk space until you open them. The first time you open a file, Cuevue downloads it; after that it opens from your Mac.
- To keep a file or folder on your Mac at all times, right-click it in Finder and choose Keep Downloaded.
- To free up space, right-click and choose Remove Download. The file stays in Cuevue and downloads again the next time you open it.
A file you have never opened cannot be opened offline.
Trash and restore#
Moving a file to the Trash in Finder deletes it from Cuevue for everyone in the space, the same as deleting it in the web app.
Deleted files are not gone. Restore them from Settings → Advanced → Deleted files in the web app for 30 days. See Data Retention & Exports.
Conflicted copies#
If someone else saves a new copy of a file while you are editing it, Cuevue keeps both. Their save stays as the file, and yours is saved next to it in the same folder with "conflicted copy", your name and the date in its name. Open both, keep the one you want, and delete the other.
Sign out#
Open the Cuevue app's account settings and choose Sign Out. This signs out this Mac only; your other devices and the web app stay signed in.
